VOLUME 8, NUMBER 2, APRIL 2008

FROM THE OFFICER’S TENT

The season is just about here and you might want to take some time to check over your equipment.  Funny how clothing will shrink over the winter.  I think the Sutlers put together a special weave just for our uniforms that makes them smaller each Spring.

We will be having our Drill/Picnic/meeting on May 10th.  I am encouraged by the number of people that have already told me that they will be attending.

Don’t forget to send in your event registration forms ASAP.  Especially if you plan to attend Mumford as it is a must to pre register because no walk-ons will be allowed.  You can bring it to the meeting but I would prefer you sent it to me long before that.

Things are getting less strained with the 5th, Mike has left the 5th and is now doing WW2 reenacting.  I wish him the best of luck with his new unit.

We will not be doing the Artillery school at Fort Niagara as a unit this year but they are having their Soldiers through the ages/military time line Memorial Day weekend and we may be attending this.  The event is both Saturday & Sunday and they will provide breakfast and lunch both days.  I have done it before and as long as the weather holds it can be a lot of fun.  And yes we will be doing some firing of the carbines along with a lot of living history.  I will find out more information and will get it to you at the meeting.

The Drill/Meeting/Picnic

Jay has arranged for us to have some land available to us so we can do some drill.  Instead of just going just to drill we are going to have it the same day as our meeting and at the same location.  Drill will start at 10:am and the picnic will take place at Noon.  Then we will have our meeting about 1:00 pm and be on our way home by 2 or 2:30.   If you are in the Buffalo/Tonawanda area and want to carpool down call me. 716 693-3237.  We can make arrangements to meet at some shopping mall or plaza and we can all go down together.  For those that live in the Rochester area Bob DeVisser is the guy to contact for carpool arrangements. 585 381-9490. rfd@netacc.net

Below are the directions that Jay sent me coming from Buffalo.  For those coming from another direction or using a GPS the final address is:  5140 Waltonian Road., Ashville, NY 14701

There is a sign out front that says Vincent’s Hunting & Shooting and you might want to bring a stool or chair for the meeting portion.

Enough is Enough!

As most of you know in the 9th N.Y. and other units. There has been a lot of “Terry Bashing” going on for some time now. Either by individual or individuals who I feel are out to destroy or harm Terry’s reputation or business.

Remarks and or accusations about his person are unfair and unfounded and groundless.

Terry Schultz is known by many in the Civil War Community and also outside of it. I myself have known Terry for sixteen years. He is and always was an honest and truthful, fair person. He is a Sutler and I have found that his equipment and items and rifles that he sells are of good quality. I have bought from him for many years and so have many others. I’ve never heard anything else in the contrary from others that he has done anything less.

Terry has been in Civil war re-enacting for many years and is known by so many people. They too will stand by Terry and acknowledge the fact that he is a good and honest person. Terry has many times gone to help persons that need his help with out charge or favors.

So these put downs about Terry Schultz must stop and stop now. It serves no purpose at all when the accusations aren’t true.

Wouldn’t you think if this individual or individuals have a beef about something that they would sit down and talk about what they think is wrong? Face to face! I guess not!

Sincerely submitted,

Robert Oakes
